The Poetry of Light: Prints and Drawings by Livio Ceschin

Curated by Eric Denker

March 29, 2025 - August 17, 2025

The 91制片厂 in Washington Art Gallery is pleased to present The Poetry of Light: Prints and Drawings by Livio Ceschin, the first American one-person show of this noted Italian artist. Livio Ceschin is one of the leading printmakers working in Europe today. He is a brilliant draftsman who employs his technical expertise to investigate the subtleties of primordial nature. His prints reveal the delicate changes of light and atmosphere that affect our perception of the ever-mutable natural environment. Ceschin is particularly interested in the passage of time, not only with respect to living flora but also as it is revealed by the evidence of human incursions into nature.

The exhibition, containing 54 prints and drawings, will be open from March 29 through August 17, 2025.

A Brush with Printmaking: Monotypes by Jack Boul Curated by Eric Denker

A Brush with Printmaking: Monotypes by Jack Boul

Curated by Eric Denker

January 25, 2024 - August 5, 2024

For 74 years, Jack Boul has been one of the premiere artists in the Washington DC area, employing his exceptional talents in both painting, etching, and monotype to convey a deeply poetic sensibility. Nowhere is Boul鈥檚 achievement more evident than in his quietly evocative monotypes. Landscape fascinates him, yet he is as attracted to the poetry of a gritty cityscape as he is to the countryside. He depicts such prosaic urban sights as water towers and train yards with the same acuity as when rendering the charm of a Parisian caf茅 or a Venetian canal.

Watercolours of Venice by Geoffrey Humphries

Curated by Eric Denker

January 25, 2024 - August 5, 2024

Geoffrey Humphries has been the pre-eminent watercolorist working in Venice for the last fifty years. His acute sensitivity to light and its ability to transform color is at the core of his achievement. His watercolors are rapidly executed, on the spot, always maintaining the spontaneity of their execution and the immediacy of their artistic perception. In a very real sense, the city itself is his studio. He has the unique opportunity of returning to the same place, month after month, bearing witness to the constantly differing effects of light and atmosphere. The exhibition at 91制片厂 in Washington Art Gallery includes 44 watercolors including many of the well-known sights that have made the city famous, such as the Basilica of San Marco, the Piazza, the Rialto Bridge, and the Grand Canal. However, Humphries is just as interested in views that are characteristic of the daily experience of the expatriate鈥檚 life in Venice.
